Hamilton Elementary students and staff celebrated California Native American Day on Friday, September 24, 2021. Surrounding tribes, hosted by Cahuilla Band of Indians' Cultural Committee, Ramona Band of Cahuilla Indians and Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians, provided an opportunity to learn about local Native American culture. Students were entertained by Bird Singers and Dancers, taught how to say the Hamilton mascot, Bobcat, in the native language, and provided with a demonstration on how to weave baskets. The day was made complete with Indian Fry bread and acorn mush followed by some mesquite cookies.
